LOSS OF DISPENSING AT MEASHAM
The Government has introduced a White Paper on Pharmacy.
This includes a number of proposals that will increase the range of
services offered at pharmacies across the country, including advice on
health, medicines and minor illness.
The Doctors at Measham are in broad agreement with these aims. However,
there is one change that is serious.
A proposal to alter how assessment is made of whether doctors can have a
dispensary in the surgery means that Measham Medical Unit may have to
close its dispensary. This would mean the loss of jobs of all our
dispensary staff.
This will mean 7000 patients will have to go elsewhere for their
prescriptions. They will no longer be able to get their medicines at the
time of the prescription from the doctor.
Because of Measham hill, many less able patients will have to drive to
the nearest pharmacy.
A letter to your MP - David Taylor or Mark Todd for most of you –
opposing the change in the way dispensing is granted would be most
helpful in trying to prevent the closure of the dispensary here at
Measham.
To be supportive, you need to write in your own words why closing the
dispensary would affect you. This might include ease of access,
convenience, the delivery service or other important services you would
miss.
There is an urgent deadline – you have just a few weeks to write – try
and do it before the end of October or first week of November.
If you don’t get your medicines from the dispensary, this could still
affect you as income from the dispensary has supported much of the
development of Measham Medical Unit and Appleby.
